Orwig Music Library -- Policies on Access and Use

All members of the Brown University community and individuals with the University Library reader's or borrower's card are welcome to use the Music Library for music research and as a place to study. As one of the libraries comprising the Brown University Library, the Music Library conforms to the policies and procedures of the University Library system.

No food or drink is allowed in the Music Library. To ensure compliance with United States copyright regulations, the taping of sound recordings is not permitted in the Music Library.

Copyright Policy
The library does not permit the use of library computers or audiovisual equipment to copy commercially produced compact discs, LPs, cassettes or video recordings of any format.

Music Circulation Policy

Brown University faculty members may check out media for one month.

Graduate Students:
Brown graduate students may borrow media for one week.

Music Concentrators:
Declared undergraduate Music Concentrators may borrow up to three items (CDs, LPs, DVDs or Video tapes) for a twenty-four hour period. Music concentrators may borrow media only when full-time Orwig staff are present (i.e. before 7:00 PM on weekdays and between 4:15 and 10:00 PM on Sundays).

Undergraduate Students:
It is possible for Brown University students who need media for a class to request permission to borrow for a limited period (usually 24 hours or less). In such cases, the student borrower should ask their professor to e-mail the library staff at orwig@brown.edu stating the student's name and the need for classroom use prior to going to Orwig to retrieve their media

Fines for late material will be charged at the Course Reserves fine rate of $0.50 an hour for each item.
