Giving to the Library. The Brown University Library supports excellence in faculty research and teaching and is an integral part of students' academic experience. We invite you to invest in the University Library as together we enrich the lives and futures of Brown students and faculty for generations to come.
Staying connected. Founded in 1938, the Friends of the Library brings together book lovers, collectors, Brown alumni, faculty and students dedicated to the support and development of one of the nation’s major research libraries. With the help of the Friends, the Brown University Library has continued to grow in response to the challenges of a dynamic curriculum, the demands of scholarship and the opportunities created by new technologies. Friends events bring together our diverse members for enlightenment, entertainment and enrichment, while increasing the visibility of the Brown Library’s wonderful resources.
Digital Bookplates. The Library's digital bookplating program places a permanent link in Josiah, the Library's online catalog, to each title given or acquired through the generosity of the Library's donors. Every time a user searches and views a title in Josiah, the donor's gift is recognized via the digital bookplate.
Using the Libraries. The Brown Library recognizes all Brown degree holders as alumni. Brown alumni can stay up-to-date with a wide variety of news and research from the convenience of any computer with internet access, through three distinct online resources collections. Access the Brown Alumni Library Online. All Brown alumni may request a free access card by visiting the circulation desk at the Rockefeller or Sciences Libraries. Effective January 1, 2008, the Brown University Library offers borrowing privileges free of charge to Brown alumni. See: How to request an Alumni Borrowing Card.
