Essay Topic

If Lincoln was willing to tolerate slavery in the southern states, why was he so vehemently opposed to its extension into the territories?

By submitting this application, I certify that I live or go to school in Providence County, that I am in 8th grade, and that the submitted essay is my own work. I authorize Hildene and Brown University to use my work in all future related events and publications without compensation and I understand that I must attend the luncheon at Brown University on June 11, 2011 and read my essay in order to receive my prize. Submission Deadline: February 12, 2011. Essay must arrive at the John Hay Library before 5:00 pm
