San Diego. May 17.
The Arizona Citizen has the following:
Tucson, May 10. -Reliable news is just received that the troops killed 13 warriors in an engagement last week in Whitestone Mountains, where Lieut. Cushing was killed. Captains Stanwood and Moore are on the trail of the band. The Pima indians on the 3d struck a ranch of Apaches in Pinal Mountains, 50 miles north of Pinal Reservation, and killed 28 and took four prisoners. The prisoners admitted that they had been fed at Camp Grant, and were hostile. No stronger evidence is necessary than has been given to show that foolish commandants have been fostering hostile Indians. The rejoicing on Stoneman's displacement by Gen. Crooks is enthusiastic-especially because of Crooks' assignment, which has inspired new hopes.
