Harris Collection of American Poetry and Plays -- Samuel Coffin Eastman

Samuel Coffin EastmanSamuel Coffin Eastman was a member of the Brown Class of 1857, and the son-in-law of Albert Gorton Greene. In 1917 he bequeathed a sum of money to the Library for the purpose of establishing a fund to benefit the Harris Collection. That fund, among others, has enabled the Collection to grow from the 4,129 volumes listed in the 1875 bibliography Index to American Poetry and Plays in the Collection of C. Fiske Harris to the over 250,000 volumes it contains today.
