Providence & Brown

“John and Moses…made elaborate preparations for the new institution. The college, they agreed, should be set upon the summit of Prospect Hill, with the town of Providence laid out below, and all the broad reach of Narragansett Bay in view to the south. As it happened, this enchanting spot was encompassed by the original lot assigned to Chad Brown, the brothers’ great-grandfather, when the ground that became Providence was granted Roger Williams by the native inhabitants.”
