Welcome to the Library Resource Guide for SEMINAR IN MUSIC AND THEATER
Students compare selected Broadway musicals with counterparts in at least one other medium (e.g. novels, dramas, films that were sources for a given show or derived from it). Radically different stage versions of the same show are considered. Emphasis is on the works themselves, with secondary readings assigned as needed. The class focuses as a group this semester on families of works connected to the following five titles: Porgy and Bess, Pal Joey, Flower Drum Song, Cabaret and the Wizard of Oz/The Wiz/Wicked. Final projects involve comparisons of works chosen by the students themselves.
