My training is as an archaeologist and anthropologist of the Muslim world with a special focus on the Middle East/Eastern Mediterranean. I received my doctorate from The University of Chicago in 2006. I have conducted research in Egypt, Syria, Jordan and Armenia.

For several summers I have worked with faculty colleagues at the Joukowsky Institute for Archaeology as a field director with Brown's ongoing excavations at Petra, Jordan.
