Apache Kid:

Born in 1860 in Arizona as a member of Captain Chiquito's band of Indians in the Aravaipa Canyon, Apache Kid (Ski-be-nan-ted) became an Apache scout, and rose to the rank of sergeant by 1882. He served in several military campgains, including the battle of Big Dry Wash, the Sierra Madre campaigns of 1883 and 1886, and the pursuit of Geronimo in 1885. He was married to a daughter of the Indian chief Eskiminzin, which caused problems for the chief in the 1890s, leading to his exile. In 1887, in the wake of his father's death, the Kid ran into trouble with the law and was sentenced to death in a military court, though the trial was overturned and retried in civilian court, where he sentenced to time in prison. While be transported to prison, the Kid and the four other convicts with him killed their guards and escaped. From that time on, the Kid existed as a ghost and a rumor in Arizona, never apprehended or killed by the army, and though blamed for many murders, it is unknown which, if any, he was involved in.
