Sacaton:
The settlement at Sacaton in southern Arizona dates back to the Pima (Akimel O'odham) Indians. Its important situation at the confluence of two branches of the Gila River was recognized by the Spanish and subsequently the Americans, who also settled in the area. Sacaton was used by American settlers as a stage coach station and as the headquarters for the Pima Indian Reservation. Its name dervies from the tall forage grass called sacaton.
