Capt. Sherod Hunter:

Sherod Hunter was born in Tennessee in 1834. In 1857, he left Tennessee, and about a year later he settled by the Mimbres River in New Mexico, where he established a farm. With the outbreak of Civil War, Hunter sided with the Confederacy and joined a group of Confederate volunteers. In 1862, Hunter was appointed Captain of Arizona Rangers. After the region was recaptured by Union forces, Hunter was appointed to head a scheme to attempt to bring Arizona back to the Confederacy, but the war ended before he was able to recruit a new military force. He disappeared in Mexico in the late 1860s.
