During his tenure the company expanded internationally. Sharpe has been an active player in both professional and civic organizations in Rhode Island throughout his career.

Sharpe's portrait was commissioned by President Vartan Gregorian in 1996 of Massachusetts-based portrait and landscape artists Lucia and Warren Prosperi. Sharpe is pictured in his former family home, now Rochambeau House on Brown campus.
