Case 1897 : The arbitrary arrest of Ana Rosa Kucinski and Wilson Silva
One of the youngest professors at the São Paulo University, Ana Rosa Kucinski Silva was a Chemist and revolutionary leader. Along with her husband, Wilson Silva, she was a member of a clandestine leftist insurgency group called “National Liberation Alliance” (ALN – Aliança Libertadora Nacional).
In April 22nd of 1974, at the age of 32, she went to “Praça da República” to meet her husband for lunch after work, and the couple was never seen again.
Case 1700: Arbitrary detention of Dr. Ernest Hamburger and Amelia Imperio Hamburger
On December 5th, 1970, the Hamburgers were arrested for “an attempted crime against the national security”, for giving refuge to terrorists from the National Liberation Alliance (ALN). The Brazilian Government denied accusations by stating the country’s National Security Law as an enforcer against clandestine organizations of which the couple was deemed a liaison, and therefore had been arrested. The couple was eventually released conditionally, subject to prosecution for crimes against security of the State.
