{"id":12741,"date":"2022-09-14T16:40:28","date_gmt":"2022-09-14T20:40:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.brown.edu\/libnews\/?p=12741"},"modified":"2022-09-14T16:40:28","modified_gmt":"2022-09-14T20:40:28","slug":"race-and-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/library.brown.edu\/create\/libnews\/race-and-2022\/","title":{"rendered":"Brown Library publishes five new volumes in the &#8220;Race &amp; \u2026 in America&#8221; digital book series"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Open access publication expands series delving into comparative perspectives on the roots and effects of racism in the U.S.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the second year running, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brown.edu\/academics\/race-ethnicity\/home\">Center for the Study of Race and Ethnicity in America<\/a> at Brown partnered with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brown.edu\/about\/administration\/provost\/race-america\">Office of the Provost<\/a> on the pioneering <em>Race &amp; \u2026 in America<\/em> webinar series, a systematic investigation of the foundational and enduring effects of anti-Black racism in America. Over the course of the 2021-22 academic year, the series again served as a virtual platform for the Brown community to think through the myriad, complex ways that race defines American society and to share these insights with each other and the public at large. Exploring the arts more fully, five new panels featuring Brown faculty continued to generate critical engagements with society\u2019s most fundamental and urgent questions. The informed and illuminating discussions deepened knowledge and awareness in the service of promoting a more just and inclusive community and world. The <a href=\"https:\/\/digitalpublications.brown.edu\/projects\/project-collection\/race-and-in-america?collectionOrder=race-and-in-america\"><em>Race &amp; \u2026 in America<\/em> digital publication series<\/a>, now complete with 13 volumes, amplifies the impact and extends the reach of this important and timely panel series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"512\" height=\"332\" src=\"https:\/\/library.brown.edu\/create\/libnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/44\/2022\/09\/bob-marley.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12742\" srcset=\"https:\/\/library.brown.edu\/create\/libnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/44\/2022\/09\/bob-marley.png 512w, https:\/\/library.brown.edu\/create\/libnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/44\/2022\/09\/bob-marley-300x195.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 512px) 100vw, 512px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Developed by <a href=\"https:\/\/library.brown.edu\/create\/digitalpublications\/\">Brown University Digital Publications<\/a> in close coordination with Tricia Rose, Chancellor\u2019s Professor of Africana Studies, Associate Dean of the Faculty for Special Initiatives, and Director of the Center for the Study of Race and Ethnicity in America, the <em>Race &amp; \u2026 in America<\/em> digital publication series re-presents the compelling original panel discussions with expanded content and resources in an innovative, interactive format, designed to heighten understanding and broaden critical conversations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"512\" height=\"467\" src=\"https:\/\/library.brown.edu\/create\/libnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/44\/2022\/09\/student-voices.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12743\" srcset=\"https:\/\/library.brown.edu\/create\/libnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/44\/2022\/09\/student-voices.png 512w, https:\/\/library.brown.edu\/create\/libnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/44\/2022\/09\/student-voices-300x274.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 512px) 100vw, 512px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;As the Brown community continues to tackle the contentious and important subject of anti-Black racism, the <em>Race &amp; in America<\/em> series allows us to increase awareness of the factors fueling racial injustice through the expertise of Brown&#8217;s faculty,&#8221; said Provost Richard M. Locke. &#8220;We recognize that all members of our community need the courage, dedication and willingness to work on transformational change. We fully support the digital delivery of this critical content for greater access and broader community reach.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As an open access publication, the digital series provides enduring, barrier-free access to knowledge, and has been developed with universal design principles for equitable use by all persons, including those with disabilities.
