Discussion will explore how and whether society has moved away from custodial forms of treatment for people with mental health conditions. Attendees will be invited to view the <a href=\"https:\/\/libguides.brown.edu\/careandcustody\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/libguides.brown.edu\/careandcustody\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">corresponding exhibit<\/a> at the Rockefeller Library.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speakers:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Christine Montross, MD, Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Human Behavior<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Jennifer Lambe, Associate Professor, Director of Graduate Studies, Department of History<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Josiah \u201cJody\u201d Rich, MD, MPH, Professor of Medicine and Epidemiology<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Moderator: <\/strong>Leo Lovemore, Librarian for History, Society, and Culture<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Care &amp; Custody: Past Responses to Mental Health<br><em>A traveling exhibition from the National Library of Medicine, hosted at the Warren Alpert Medical School, May 8 &#8211; June 17 2023<\/em><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This&nbsp;traveling banner exhibition and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nlm.nih.gov\/exhibition\/careandcustody\/index.html\">companion website<\/a>&nbsp;explores the treatment of people with mental health conditions throughout history, especially in the United States, bringing to light the tension that has existed between care and custody.
