The Brown University Library\u2019s research data management<\/a> and publishing support services<\/a> listed below are available to all Brown-affiliated faculty, staff, and students, including clinical faculty with Brown credentials. Electronic Laboratory Notebooks (ELNs)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n

Brown University has a license for LabArchives<\/a> electronic lab. Principal investigators can create project notebooks for each lab member, and users can share them with internal and external collaborators. In compliance with Brown\u2019s Research Data and Research Materials Management, Sharing, and Retention Policy<\/a>, the PI will retain ownership and access to all members\u2019 notebooks. Graduating and departing lab members can make and take a copy of their notebooks. Brown\u2019s license also includes LabArchives for Education, for use in lab courses. This tool allows instructors to create a course lab notebook containing protocols and assignments and generate a copy for each student; students and TAs may be given different levels of access, and both individual and group work are supported. Support for NIH\u2019s New Data Management and Sharing Plans<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n

The Library\u2019 Data Management and Sharing Plan (DMP) consulting service can connect researchers with funder templates and Brown resources for managing and sharing data. Access templates and Brown\u2019s guidance and submit a draft DMP for library review by logging into and using the DMPTool<\/a> and following the prompts. Support for Brown\u2019s Faculty Open Access Policy<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n

In 2021, the Brown faculty adopted a Faculty Open Access Policy<\/a>, in which faculty are called upon to deposit either a copy of a working paper (pre-print), a final peer-reviewed manuscript, or an open-access publication. The Library can help with deposit in various open access and public access repositories, such as Brown\u2019s branded-space within BioRxiv or MedRxiv<\/a>; a funder\u2019s publication repository such as PubMed Central (PMC); or the Brown Digital Repository<\/a> (BDR). The Library also has a growing list of read and publish agreements with publishers<\/a> to waive or reduce fees for immediate open access.
