The John Carter Brown Library (JCB) and John Hay Library on Brown University\u2019s campus invite local Indigenous community members to a research night and open house at both libraries from 5 to 7 p.m. on May 1, 2025.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pre-selected primary and secondary source materials from the libraries’ collections will be available to visit, view and discuss. Library staff will be on hand at both locations to provide research support and to discuss further opportunities for research and engagement. Light refreshments will be served separately from the collection viewing areas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tribal community members interested in Indigenous languages, ethnobotany, placemaking, memory and critical Native and Indigenous studies are encouraged to attend. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The JCB\u2019s collections are focused around the history of the Americas before 1825. The Library\u2019s rich collection of printed books, manuscripts, maps, prints and more supports research inquiry into post- colonial interactions across Indigenous cultures in the Western hemisphere. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The John Hay Library\u2019s collections, global in scope, complement the JCB\u2019s collection in chronology and content with an additional focus on contemporary Native and Indigenous voice as it appears across various genres of expression including zines, comic books, archival collections, artist books, speculative fiction, poetry and art. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
