She will be giving a talk today (November 7 2013) at 5:30 p.m. in the DSL\u00a0called:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.brown.edu\/libnews\/jo-guldi-presents-can-participatory-maps-save-the-world\/\"><em>Can Participatory Maps Save the World?\u00a0<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Guldi was born in Dallas, Texas. Her academic adventures took her to Harvard where she received her <a href=\"http:\/\/www.harvard.edu\/degree-abbreviations\">AB<\/a>. From there she went on to study at Trinity College (Cambridge) and at the University of California-Berkeley. It was at UC Berkeley\u00a0where she completed her PhD in History. From there she earned postdocs at the University of Chicago and Harvard Society of Fellows.<\/p>\n<p>Jo Guldi is interested in the history of capitalism, land use, and computational tools that can visualize large amounts of text. One such tool is\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/papermachines.org\/\">Paper Machines<\/a>,\u00a0an open-source extension for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.zotero.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Zotero<\/a>, that she created with Christopher Johnson-Roberson.
