The Library is honored to present Ayad\u00a0Akhtar (Brown alum ’93) as the speaker for the\u00a010th Annual Don Wilmeth Endowed Lectureship in American Theatre.<\/p>\n

The lecture will be on\u00a0Monday, December 9 at 7 p.m.\u00a0in the Martinos Auditorium of the Granoff Center.<\/p>\n

Ayad Akhtar is an author, playwright, and screenwriter. His book American Dervish <\/em>was voted one of the\u00a0Best Books\u00a0of the Year (2012) by numerous publications. His play Disgraced\u00a0<\/em>won\u00a0the 2013 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.\u00a0Akhtar is a\u00a0graduate of Brown and Columbia Universities with degrees in Theater and Film Directing. He was born in New York City and raised in\u00a0Milwaukee.<\/p>\n

The Don Wilmeth Endowed Lectureship<\/strong>\u00a0was established in honor of Professor Don Wilmeth and his monumental contribution to the study of theatre at Brown. The lectureship supports an annual lecture series on American theatre. Past visiting lecturers have included Laurence Maslon (2005), Jim Steinmeyer (2007), Christopher Bigsby (2008), Laura Linney (2008), Lynn Nottage (2010), and Bill Irwin (2011).<\/p>\n
