A reception will follow the lecture.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Alex Stone<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Alex Stone is a renowned journalist, speaker, magician, and former\u00a0physicist. He is the author of <em>Fooling Houdini: Magicians, Mentalists,\u00a0Math Geeks and the Hidden Powers of the Mind<\/em>\u2014a book about the world of\u00a0magic and its ties to science. <em>Fooling Houdini<\/em> was named one of\u00a0Amazon\u2019s &#8220;Ten Best Nonfiction Books of 2012&#8221; and has been published in\u00a0nine countries. Stone&#8217;s writing has also appeared in <em>The New York\u00a0Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, Harper\u2019s, The New\u00a0Republic, Discover, Psychology Today,<\/em> and elsewhere. He lives in New\u00a0York City.<\/p>\n<p><b>Lecture Summary<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Stone\u2019s talk will show\u00a0you how to hack the human brain using the\u00a0principles of magic, illusion, and deception. Through a lively mix of\u00a0cutting-edge science and jaw-dropping tricks, Stone pulls back the\u00a0curtain to reveal a host of startling revelations about how the mind\u00a0works\u2014and why, sometimes, it doesn\u2019t. His enthralling and informative\u00a0talk offers a wealth of powerful insights into the nature of\u00a0perception and the hidden forces that shape human behavior, leaving\u00a0the audience with a new way of looking at the world and at themselves.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Don Wilmeth Endowed Lectureship<\/strong> was established in honor of Professor Don Wilmeth and his monumental contribution to the study of theatre at Brown. The lectureship supports an annual lecture series on American theatre.
