Skidmore<\/strong>\u00a0is Carlos Manuel de Cespedes Professor of History Emeritus at Brown University. He is the author of\u00a0<em>Politics in Brazil, 1930\u20131964,<\/em>\u00a02nd ed.<em>\u00a0<\/em>\u00a0(OUP, 2007),\u00a0<em>Brazil: Five Centuries of Change,<\/em>\u00a02nd ed.\u00a0(OUP, 2009), <em>Black into White: Race and Nationality in Brazilian Thought\u00a0<\/em>(OUP, 1974), and\u00a0<em>The Politics of Military Rule in Brazil, 1964-85<\/em>\u00a0(OUP, 1988).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Peter H. Smith<\/strong>\u00a0is Distinguished Professor of Political Science and Simon Bolivar Professor of Latin American Studies at the University of California, San Diego.
