diamondDovesEatYourHeartDiamond Doves are singers and multi-instrumentalists Nick Kinsey ‘05, Brigham Brough, and Wyndham Boylan-Garnett. The band, formerly known as Dearland, was part of the critically-acclaimed, folk-rock act Elvis Perkins in Dearland. As Diamond Doves, they have toured extensively in support of artists like The Felice Brothers and A.A. Bondy. Their eponymous EP was released in 2011, and their debut full-length “Eat Your Heart Out” followed in 2013. They released the single “One Good Reason” in early 2014. The current lineup of Diamond Doves features Dan Edinberg ’03 (Zox, The Stepkids) and Graham Norwood ‘03 (Dough Rollers).

About the members

Diamond Doves(duo)Nick Kinsey ‘05 is a drummer, producer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist based out of Brooklyn, New York. He has performed and recorded with a wide range of artists including My Morning Jacket, Bon Iver, Cold War Kids, The Felice Brothers, and many others. After studying clarinet and piano as a child, Nick met and began studying drums with his mentor Billy Martin (Medeski, Martin & Wood) at 17. In 2001 he moved to Providence, RI to study ethnomusicology at Brown University, where he studied with Paul Mason and Dave Zinno and made frequent trips to Boston to study with jazz drumming legends Bob Gullotti and Bob Moses. In 2004 he lived in Havana, Cuba where he studied with a handful of the city’s percussion masters. In 2005, he joined his friends Elvis Perkins, Brigham Brough, and Wyndham Boylan-Garnett to form Elvis Perkins in Dearland, playing festivals such as Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, Newport Folk Festival, and The Late Show with David Letterman. After some time off the road and a move back to his hometown of New York City, Nick formed Diamond Doves along with his Dearland bandmates Brigham and Wyndham, as an outlet for their writing and recording experiments outside the more acoustic folk styles of their work with Elvis. They released a handful of singles and EPs beginning in 2010. Their full-length debut, “Eat Your Heart Out,” was released in January of 2013. On top of continued performance and studio work with the likes of A.C. Newman, Himalayas, The Dough Rollers, and Marco Benevento, and others, Nick writes and records under the name Thunderclap. His eclectic reinterpretations of various Child Ballads can be heard here. He is currently finishing his debut solo record as KINSEY.

Wyndham Boylan-Garnett‘s musical journey can only be described as Odyssean. At the age of 18 he earned his bread busking on the streets of Greymouth, New Zealand while living in the rainforest with a tribe of artists. Upon returning to the Americas he began playing in Los Angeles with his God Brother Elvis Perkins. During his time there he was joined by his friend Nick Kinsey, and the roots of Elvis Perkins in Dearland were seeded. In 2004 he moved to Tivoli, NY to attend Bard College. During that time, he frequented Providence RI to play with Elvis, Nick, and friend Brigham Brough. By 2006 the group Elvis Perkins in Dearland was officially born, and Wyndham left Bard to hit the road with the band. In 2011, the band took a break and Wyndham moved to New York City, playing shows under the name Little Wolf. Soon he began collaborating with Nick Kinsey and Brigham Brough and the band Diamond Doves was formed. In 2013 he was asked to join the group Clap Your Hands Say Yeah and toured North and South America as well as Europe with the band. For the past year Wyndham has been recording with Marco Benevento, Josh Rawson (Felice Brothers), and Otto Hauser (Vetiver) and plans to release his debut record in early 2015. Wyndham has shared the stage with Levon Helm, Pete Seeger, Joan Baez, Taj Mahal, My Morning Jacket, Bon Iver, Dr. Dog, The Cold War Kids, A. A Bondy, and many other amazing musicians. He currently lives in Brooklyn, NY.

Dan Edinberg ‘03 has been playing bass and keyboards, singing, producing, engineering, and mixing albums professionally for the last 15 years. He is a member of Providence, RI’s Zox, a pop-rock band signed to SideOneDummy records. He is a founding member of The Stepkids, the psychedelic-soul trio signed to Stones Throw Records. Currently, he is producing and writing albums for several up-and-coming artists in New York City. A Brown graduate, he is excited to rock the place where he would hole up and put in long hours studying: THE ROCK.

Graham Norwood ’03 is a full-time musician and producer in the New York area, singing and playing guitar and bass in a variety of projects around the city. These projects include playing bass and singing backup vocals in The Dough Rollers (signed to Jack White’s label, Third Man), playing guitar and singing backup with Evil Arrows (who have released four EPs of new material in 2014 alone), and fronting Achilles’ Last Band, a Led Zeppelin cover band. In addition to his many collaborative endeavors, Graham has recently begun writing his debut solo album, to be released in 2015.
