Hair is about the closest the Broadway stage got to the youth and rock culture of
the late 1960s. The show began off-Broadway, and the version that Broadway
audiences saw was diluted from the original, although the obligatory nudity was
retained. It was hoped that Hair would usher in an era of rock musicals, but with
a few exceptions this proved not to be the case. Notable songs include Hair, Age
of Acquarius, and the immortal Frank Mills.
