Le Sexe au pouvoir [Sex in Power]

Grottarossa, Rome, September 1978.
Ink, colored tissue paper, tempera on cardboard.

Contents note: Created for the exhibition Casa de las Américas. Translation of the content notes from Italian to English, keeping the numbering as in the original:

  1. “What the hell kind of comic is this?
  2. “I am the queen of the multinationals, and the red (or real?) butterfly has crippled me.”
  3. “Have pity on this poor old Chinese man! (I am Cian-cin, escaped and in disguise, but don’t tell anyone: I was the one who denounced that filthy whore, queen of the SIM).
  4. “I feel very uncomfortable in this comic: I am just a simple chess knight, and here they want me to play the role of the Trojan horse.”
  5. “I am the shadow of the Omnipotent Power of Sex, Post-sexual and Androgynous: I will kill the butterfly that killed the queen of the SIM that killed Cian-cin, and I will force it to become a chrysalis again, then a caterpillar, then an egg.” (1) “Shall we start the flood all over again or are we doomed for eternity?”
  6. “I am just a simple blot of India ink, leave me alone. (But in three-quarters view I look quite a lot like Marlene Dietrich in The Blue Angel, don’t I?)”
