Watercolors and Sketches, William Simpson (1878-1879)
These watercolors and sketches were done by William Simpson while he was in Afghanistan on assignment for the
London Illustrated Times, traveling with the British Army in 1878-1879. He sent the original artwork back to London via the mail routes to Bombay, through the Suez Canal and up to London. Engravers with the Times in London converted his artwork into etchings that were printed in the weekly newspaper.
