Peter Harrington contributed an essay on War Artists to the
recently published Encyclopedia of the Pacific War (New York,
Garland, 2000) edited by Stanley Sadler. In addition, a chapter by him
entitled "Pictorial Journalism and the Boer War: The London Illustrated
Weeklies" appeared in The Boer War: Direction, Experience and Image
(London, Frank Cass, 2000), edited by John Gooch.
"Never the twain shall meet? Collaboration between catalogers and reference
librarians in the OCLC CORC project at Brown University", an article
by Ann Caldwell, Dominique Coulombe,
Ron Fark and Michael Jackson, was
recently published in Vol. 4, nos. 1/2 (2001) of the Journal of Internet
Cataloging. The entire issue of the journal was devoted to CORC
(the Cooperative Online Resource Catalog).
Eric Shoaf's book, Collecting William S. Burroughs
in Print has been published by Ratishna Books. Collectors of Burroughs'
works have cast about for years trying to find editions of his works,
as well as his contributions to books and journals. The only bibliography
of Burroughs' works was published in 1978 and covered the years 1953
- 1973. Shoaf's new book covers 1953 to the present. It also includes
many items from the earlier period which were not included in the bibliography
by Maynard & Miles. Eric hopes that collectors and book dealers will
benefit from information about "what is out there" and will be able
to build their own collections of Burrough's works more easily. He notes
that often one needs to know what one is looking for in order to find
it.
