This Haggadah, printed by Samuel W. Pascheles, was one of the very few editions of the 19th century where an attempt was made to create a new series of illustrations that departed from the earlier Venetian and Amsterdam archetypes. The artist, Cyril Kutlik, was a Slovak Christian, son of a Protestant minister and only nineteen years old at the time. His twelve pictures were executed in the romantic style popular at the time.
