George S. Champlin Memorial Collection, Robert T. Galkin Collection

In 1955, the World Health Organization launched the Global Malaria Eradication Programme. In 1961, in cooperation with the Universal Postal Union, the World Health Assembly passed a resolution to encourage international participation in a malaria-focused postage stamp issuing plan. The theme was “The World United Against Malaria,? and more than 90 postal authorities produced stamps and postal materials to raise funds for eradication plans. The dissemination of these stamps allowed the message to reach both affected and disease-free populations.
