Lewis Carroll’s Eight or Nine Wise Words about Letter-Writing encouraged young people to learn proper written etiquette. Accompanying this booklet, his invention “The Wonderland Postage-Stamp Case” used whimsical characters from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland to increase interest in letter writing. The pockets labeled “1d.” held the most frequently used stamps. (JOSIAH)
