Jan E. Sandgren November 15, 1937 - September 14, 2007 Jan was born in Sweden is 1937. He became an engineer, the only person of the family to go to college. Jan was always interested in the USA, and came here with his family on a 2 year contract with an engineering position. However, the family stayed and moved several times until they settled in Providence in 1978. Jan had many talents and interests, and had a vast knowledge in many subjects such as history, economics, Judaism and woodworking. He built furniture, dollhouses, ship models and much more. He also loved to travel, and had been to many countries in Europe, the Americas and in Africa. Jan was a renaissance man with an unending quest for knowledge; he felt each day was a gift and appreciated every hour. Jan was a gentle soul with a generous spirit; his love of life is a legacy he leaves to his family and community. In addition to his wife, each of his children and grandchildren will always carry part of Jan in their hearts. He was truly our Prince.
