The latest issue of The American Historical Review (115:632633, April 2010) reviews R. Burr Litchfield’s Florence Ducal Capital, 15301630, published in 2008 as an ACLS Humanities EBook. The book is accompanied by a digital map of Florence that situates its arguments geographically, and was developed in 2006 by STG.
From the review, which considers this to be a valuable historical work on early modern Europe, also says, with reference to links from the ebook to the map: “…This and other comparable innovations capitalize quite imaginatively on the potential of the electronic format …”
Building the map was an interesting STG project – carried out primarily by Kerri Hicks and Erik Resley – and we are delighted that it is receiving positive attention. We look forward to future reviews, such as one that is forthcoming in The Journal of Interdisciplinary History.
