“What’s amazing is that almost everyone has a favorite Shakespeare play, or has just seen a performance that they want to talk about….That’s not true for the authors that many of my colleagues study.”
Zachary Lesser (B.A., Brown University, Ph.D., Columbia University) is Professor of English at the University of Pennsylvania, and a general editor of The Arden Shakespeare (4th series), a distinguished scholarly edition of the complete works.
His scholarship has helped transform the study of how Shakespeare’s plays were published and marketed, and has made that knowledge central to interpreting them. He is author of Renaissance Drama and the Politics of Publication: Readings in the English Book Trade (2004), winner of the Elizabeth Dietz Award for the best book of the year in early modern studies, and of Hamlet After Q1: An Uncanny History of the Shakespearean Text (2015).
