
James Shapiro (B.A. Columbia University, Ph.D, University of Chicago) is Larry Miller Professor of English and Comparative Literature at Columbia University, specializing in Shakespeare, medieval and early modern drama, and British poetry. He is the author of numerous publications, most recently Shakespeare in America: An anthology from the revolution until now (2014) and The year of Lear: Shakespeare in 1606 (2015). He has been awarded fellowships by the Guggenheim Foundation, the NEH, the Cullman Center for Scholars and Writers, and the Huntington Library. He is a Governor of the Folger Shakespeare Library, on the Board of Directors of the Royal Shakespeare Company, and in 2011 was inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
