The Liman Collection of Board Games and Puzzles

Every Man to his Station. A New Game.

1825, Edward Wallis, London, England.

This game illustrates the vocations that middle-class boys in the early 19th century could pursue. Occupations such as doctor, farmer, jockey, and soldier are depicted in a spiral around the board, which is a typical layout for race games. This board is also boldly self-referential: The central image features a group of boys using a teetotum to play this very game, which allows the oldest player to go first.
