The Liman Collection of Board Games and Puzzles

Historical Pastime. A New Game of the History of England.

Historical Pastime or a New Game of the History of England from the Conquest to the Accession of George the Third, 1808
John Harris (1686–1740) and John Wallis (d. 1818), London, England.

Historical Pastime. A New Game of the History of England [from William 1st to William 4th], 1831
Edward Wallis, London, England.

Historical Pastime. A New Game of the History of England [from William 1st to Victoria], [after 1838]
Edward Wallis and J. Harris & Son, London, England.

The complex boards and corresponding instructions of the three different editions of Historical Pastime (1808, 1831, and 1838) instruct players in British history and are filled with propaganda. For instance, George III, infamous as the king who lost the American Revolutionary War, receives only praise in his entry. Each edition spans a different set of monarchs, but the publisher also updated the game as new rulers were crowned.
