Poetry from the Age of Mass Incarceration

Bloom

from STREET VISIONS OF THE APPETIZING STORE

With drooling mouth I eyed the Garden of Eden Salad, in deep dish stainless steel trays. . . Two pounds of that stuff, pickled herring, make it two with extra on the creamed onions. Half a herring, container of Roman pitted olives, sweet pickles, wedge o sweet butter, cream cheese, and a curd’s weight of cottage cheese and don’t forget a chunk of Chocolate Halvah and a pound of shelled Walnuts.
That should do it, you’re a good man. . a pleasant day to you. The Swells are moving in and I must get back before the souls of fish are angered by: Scotian barnacle flies, Trident Shaped.
