Recognition

Martha and Waitstill Sharp’s humanitarian work in Europe during World War II has been recognized by international institutions and government officials in Czechoslovakia, Israel, and the United States.

Yad Vashem Righteous Among the Nations certificate and medal
Bestowed upon Martha and Waitstill Sharp (posthumously), 13 June 2006.
Recognition given to non-Jews who took great risks to save Jews from Nazi extermination by Yad Vashem, the World Holocaust Remembrance Center in Jerusalem. Only three other Americans, including Varian Fry, have received this honor.

Decoration awarded to foreign civilians for aid liberating Czechoslovakia from Nazi Germany.

Presented to Martha and Waitstill Sharp on behalf of the American Relief for Czechoslovakia, Inc., 2 May 1946.
Recognition given by the Lord Mayor of Plzeň in gratitude for providing aid to 2,000 children in Plzeň.

Recognition given by the Rector of the University on the motion of Dr. Josef Cancik, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, in gratitude for providing aid to children throughout Czechoslovakia.
