Rhode Island businessman George S. Champlin first donated his stamp collection to Brown University Library anonymously in 1960. This initial gift totaled just six albums, but he added to the collection and worked on it personally each year. In 1980, following his death, his collection was acknowledged publicly. The Champlin Foundations generously donate to the Library each year in Mr. Champlin’s memory, enabling the purchase of new stamps from across the globe and supporting care and maintenance of the collection. The Champlin Collection is global in scope, but does not contain U.S. stamps.
