Carnival was based on a recent popular film, Lili; in later years musicals
based on films would be a commonplace, but Carnival was unusual for its
day. Gower Champion's choreography was at the core of the production;
its best remembered song was Love Makes the World Go Round.

death;
Rodgers wrote the lyrics as well as the music. Its tale of interracial love
in Paris
appears to modern eyes to be pulling its punches, but at the time it was
an
appealingly romantic love story. The best-remembered song from No Strings
