Library Collections Annex – How to Retrieve Materials from Storage

Material stored at the Library Collections Annex has one of two locations in BruKnow:

  1. ANNEX (circulating materials)
  2. ANNEX HAY (Special Collections materials which do not circulate and must be consulted at the John Hay Library)

1. Requesting ANNEX Materials

For electronic delivery of articles from journals located at the “ANNEX,” select “scan” to the right of the item’s call number on the catalog record. You will receive a scanned copy of the article in your email. If the item is a monograph, there is a maximum of 50 pages.

Our goal is to deliver requested materials within 24 hours or by the next business day (Monday–Friday).

2. Requesting ANNEX HAY Materials

Materials with the location “ANNEX HAY” are from Special Collections and do not circulate. Upon request, they will be delivered to campus for consultation at the John Hay Library. Our goal is to deliver requested materials by the next business day (Monday–Friday).

  • Retrieval of “ANNEX HAY” Materials:
Select “request-access” to the right of the call number on the catalog record. Your request will be transferred to Aeon. If you have not already registered in Aeon, you will be prompted to do so.
  • Some materials, including manuscript collections, are not requestable in this way; for these exceptions, please use our storage request form, contact hay@brown.edu, or submit a request in person at the Reader Services desk in
    the John Hay Library.

For further information, contact rock@brown.edu for general collections (“Annex”) material or hay@brown.edu for Special Collections (“Annex Hay”) material.
