Lundy Island, 1929-1930
Postage stamps mounted on collector?s exhibition page
Ralph Stuntzer Collection of Lundy Island Stamps
These privately issued postage stamps were printed to support the delivery of mail to and from Lundy Island after the United Kingdom?s postal system ended service to the island in 1927. Martin Harman, resident and self-proclaimed King of Lundy, established stamps and coins that featured images of puffins due to the presence of these birds on the island. The stamps were affixed to the back of an envelope or front of a postcard to distinguish them from the official stamps of the Royal Mail. Lundy Island still produces puffin stamps today.
