John Hay Library

Visiting


The John Hay Library is open to all members of the Brown community and to the general public. Any researcher presenting a valid personal identification card with photo is welcome to use the collections during service hours. Entry into the John Hay Library after 6:00pm weekdays and on weekends requires access by Brown ID card-swipe.

Wireless access is available throughout the Library. Brown users connect by visiting http://wifi.brown.edu/. Guest Access is also available. A black-and-white PawPrints printer is available in the first-floor lounge.

Reading Rooms

The John Hay Library's Grand Reading Room is available for individual study. The Special Collections Reading Room is available for the use of special collections material.

Handicapped Access

Handicapped ramp and building entrance to the John Hay Library is located on the right side of the building. Handicapped rest rooms are located on the main level of the Library. The Bopp Seminar Room, the Lownes Room and the Anne S. K. Brown Military Collection Gallery and other museum rooms on the top floor are also accessible to the handicapped by elevator.

Food and Drink

Visitors may enjoy food and beverages in the first-floor lounge, to the right of the main entrance.
