Writings: Expedition Accounts  |  Samuel Wells Williams. A Journal of the Perry Expedition (1853–1854) (Yokohama, Japan: Kelley & Walsh, Ltd, 1910).

Williams kept a journal during the Perry Expedition, which his son, Frederick Wells Williams, placed at the disposal of the Asiatic Society in Japan in the early twentieth century. The Society published it in 1910, and it remained unpublished in the United States until 1973 when Scholarly Resources, Inc of Wilmington, Delaware decided to reprint it. Frederick Wells Williams also wrote the official biography of his father, The Life and Letters of Samuel Wells Williams, LL.D.: Missionary, Diplomatist, Sinologue (New York: G.B. Putman’s Sons, 1889).
