
About the John Hay Library
The John Hay Library is home to the Special Collections and Archives holdings at Brown University, located in Providence, Rhode Island. With over 250 named collections of varying subject matter, size, and type, the John Hay Library houses a multitude of unique materials available for use to researchers, students, and members of the general public.
About the Special Collections Survey Project
The special collections survey project is a 2-year (4-year as of August 2017) assignment that will aim to implement a comprehensive collection management program with the goal of enhanced access and visibility of the unique special collections materials in the John Hay Library. Aspects of the survey include detailing collection size and location; assessing MARC cataloging records; creating a location (barcode) device; creating a comprehensive stack map; highlight collections in need of conservation treatment; track storage density in the stacks; prepare materials for move off-site to best utilize space within the building, and; create a deaccession and reappraisal policy for the John Hay Library so that collections can be better evaluated and calibrated to fall under the scope of the library’s collecting mission.
About the Survey Librarian
Jordan Jancosek joined the John Hay Library as a Project Archivist in 2015 to completed work on a CLIR grant for the Hall-Hoag Collection of Extremest and Dissenting Propaganda. After that project tenure concluded at the end of February 2016, Ms. Jancosek was hired as the Survey Librarian effective March 1st. Ms. Jancosek received her M.S. in Archives Management and M.A. in History from Simmons College in May of 2015. Prior to graduating from Simmons, she received her B.A. in History and Classical Civilization from Oberlin College in 2011. Ms. Jancosek has had previous archives and library experience at Simmons College, Tufts University, Bunker Hill Community College, Antioch College, and Oberlin College.
