The Brown University Library has begun renovations on its second floor computer cluster and graduate study center. Both rooms will exploit a stunning view of College Hill and downtown Providence, as well as provide improved study space for graduates and undergraduates. The redesigned study center will boast comfortable wingchairs, flexible work stations that can be reconfigured for independent or collaborative study, and spaces for students to plug-in lap top computers. A newly conceived graduate study center will be card- accessed and outfitted with soft seating and spaces for scanners and copy machines. Plans also call for extensive renovations to the lounge area and restrooms located on the second floor.
“These renovations will enhance study spaces for both undergraduates and graduate students,” said Harriette Hemmasi, Joukowsky Family University Librarian. “The new study spaces will complement other renovations in the Rock, specifically the recently opened Drown Reading Room and the proposed Finn Reading Room in providing students with comfortable, airy spaces for study, writing, and research. Improvements to the graduate study center take into account teaching assistants’ need for a private and secure area where they can grade papers and prepare examinations for classes while also providing graduate students with much-needed quiet study space. We are eager to begin these exciting improvements that have been made possible through the Boldly Brown Campaign”
