No Article Processing Charges

Brown authors who wish to publish journal articles “immediate open access” will not be charged article processing charges with these publishers:
- Cambridge University Press (CUP)
- ACM (Association for Computing Machinery)
- Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Press (CSHL)
- Microbiology Society (MS) journals
Many authors would like to immediately publish their scholarly articles open access but are deterred by the article processing charge (APC) assessed by publishers — sometimes as high as thousands of dollars. With Brown’s recent “Read & Publish” agreements with CUP, ACM, CSHL, and MS, corresponding authors at Brown who have manuscripts accepted for publication by these journals will no longer have to pay the fee for making their published version open access. This augments OA publishing options at Brown, provides Brown community members with access to all CUP, ACM, CSHL and MS journal titles, and enhances global access to scholarly work by Brown researchers.
These agreements also strengthen Brown’s commitment to OA and help to facilitate compliance with the Brown University Open Access Policy, adopted by the faculty in 2021.
