On January 20, 2009, the United States will inaugurate the first African American president in its long history. This year also marks the 146th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation, and the 200th anniversary of its author’s birth. Utilizing materials from the John Hay Library’s impressive holdings of original material on Abraham Lincoln, this exhibition explores the life and career of the nation’s 16th President, his thoughts on questions of race in the United States, and his legacy in modern American life.
President Obama is reading Lincoln. Shouldn’t you?
