  • Welcome Christopher Geissler

    |

The John Hay Library is delighted to welcome  Christopher Geissler as a Project Archivist.  Christopher will be working on a two-year project funded by the National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC).

The John Hay Library was awarded grant funds to raise awareness of a number of significant collections, papers, and records held in Manuscripts and University Archives, including the papers of prominent literary figures, scientists, historians, Brown faculty and alumni, and cultural, political, and activist organizations. Christopher will conduct a survey of archival and manuscript collections and create catalog records and Encoded Archival Description (EAD) finding aids.  In addition, the Archivists’ Toolkit will be implemented in order to manage archival and manuscript collections through a single database.

Christopher comes to us from the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute where he was Cataloger for Archives and Special Collections.

This service, which is updated daily, allows users to browse or search titles cataloged during the previous six months. Users can subscribe to an RSS feed for any browse or combination of search terms. Browsing and search results are filtered by discipline, format, library location, language, topic, subject, name, genre and geographical place.

  • Harvard and MIT Libraries Join Borrow Direct – 20 Million Additional Books Available to Brown Borrowers

    |

The BorrowDirect partnership, which currently includes the libraries of Columbia and Cornell Universities, Dartmouth College, Princeton University, The University of Pennsylvania, and Yale University as well as Brown, will be expanding later this year to include the Harvard and MIT libraries. With this expansion, Brown users will have direct access to an additional 20 million books (and over 50 million total books and other items in the collective collections of the Ivies and MIT).

All of the libraries of Harvard and MIT (including the professional schools) will be participating, but operations for lending and borrowing will be implemented in varying stages during this year. We expect the first of Harvard’s collections, as well as MIT’s, to be available in late spring or early summer. Other collections from Harvard will follow.
