  • LibX – Put the Library In Your Browser

    LibX is a Firefox browser extension developed at Virginia Tech and configured for Brown. It allows you to search for authors, titles, keywords, and standard numbers by highlighting text ANYWHERE on the web. Searches are passed to Josiah or Google Scholar and you are directed to Brown’s licensed full text and other services such as Interlibrary Loan through the Library’s find it! service.
    LibX also places a small Brown icon – – next to titles at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, the New York Times Book Review, and other sources. Clicking on the icon searches Josiah for the title.
    LibX also makes searching Josiah, Google Scholar, and the Library’s e-journal list available directly from your browser’s toolbar (see screenshot).

  • Big changes at the Sciences Library!

    Due to construction of the Friedman Study Center in the Sciences Library, the staff and the service desk will relocate by July 1. The service desk will move up to the Mezzanine. Librarian offices are now on levels 6 and 7. Public service and processing staff will be on level 3, along with copiers, medical textbooks, newspapers, new books and periodicals. Consult with staff or call x3-3333 if you have any questions. Rest assured that the reinvigorated Sciences Library of 2007 will be well worth the wait!   • EZProxy Move to New Server

    CIS will be switching the Off-campus Access Service proxy to another server late on Sunday night, June 11. The proxy will not be available for several hours, but should be up and running by Monday morning. If you experience any problems on Monday morning, please try again later in the day. If you continue to experience problems accessing eresources via the proxy server, please contact eresources@brown.edu.
    The VPN client is an alternate and, in many cases, a more reliable method of remote access. You must have a broadband internet connection and not be using the Lifespan or other VPN client in order to use this method. More information
