  • New JOSIAH (Online Catalog) Features

    • Log in to Josiah with your Brown Username and Password
      You can now log in to view personal circulation information and renew books using your Brown username and password as an alternative to your 14-digit barcode. Log in to Josiah to view your account or renew your books.

    • Add to RefWorks
      RefWorks allows you to create your own personal database of references and to automatically format them as footnotes and bibliographies. In order to use RefWorks, you must create a personal account with your own login and password. When viewing a Josiah record, you can now click the Add to Refworks button to transfer the citation to your RefWorks account. Further information on accessing RefWorks.

    • Report a Josiah Error
      If you find an error in a Josiah catalog record you can report it by clicking on “Report an Error” at the bottom of the screen — See a screenshot. The record details will be transferred to the Catalog Department – just describe the error and give us your name and email. You can also use this form to report an error in your Josiah account. Report an error.

    • Permanent Link to a Josiah record
      The only reliable way to link to an individual Josiah record is in the format, http://library.brown.edu/record=b1234567. This permanent/durable URL is now available on all Josiah records by using the “Permalink to this Josiah record” link. ( What does this look like?) Click on it to display the durable URL in the browser’s address bar, or right-click and “copy shortcut”.

      For assistance in using Josiah consult the recently updated Josiah help screens or Ask-A-Librarian.
  • Direct borrow from 27 academic libraries

    If you discover that the Brown Library doesn’t own a book that you need or that Brown’s copy is checked out, don’t despair. You can make an online request to borrow the book from another library. It’s easy, quick, and provides access to over 75 million volumes. For more information, and a complete list of libraries involved, go to: More Borrowing Options
    Look for links to “Borrow from Other Libraries” or “Check InRhode” at the top of a Josiah search results screen (see screenshot) or click on “More Borrowing Options” on the Brown Library home page.
    Borrow Direct provides access to the Ivy League libraries (except Harvard). With InRhode you can search the collections of Roger Williams University and other Rhode Island academic libraries. The Virtual Catalog will connect you to 13 other libraries, including Tufts University and the University of Connecticut.

  • Library Database of the Week – ARTstor

    ARTstor is a new electronic image product available through the Library Web, offering more than 400,000 digital images of art, architecture, and archaeology. ARTstor’s initial software tools will support a wide range of pedagogical and research uses: viewing and analyzing images through features such as zooming and panning, saving groups of images online for personal or shared uses, and creating and delivering presentations both online and offline.
